Introduction to scuba gear.
Skills Practice
Complete the pool dive up to 5 meters.
This option is built up over two days and comprises of a pool dive to learn the skills and then an open water dive at our local quarry in Vereeniging, which offers you the opportunity to experience a true diving environment.
This obviously would be the best option, as you would be able to dive in the ocean and experience the magic of the underwater world. Here you would do the pool session first at SV and then join us on one of our scheduled trips to the coast. All necessary gear is included in the cost, all you need to do is dive in.
While it may not seem like an obvious choice, scuba diving can be an incredible and unique experience that your dad will never forget. Here are some reasons why this could be the perfect gift for your dad:

Tribe Member of the Month
Jeets, oh we have so many stories but it all started 2017 in Mozambique when he joined us with his very famous list! Since then he has become very loved by everyone and a true, loyal supporter of the club. He is a very organized and detail-oriented dive buddy who values the safety of diving and ensuring that everything is accounted for before a dive. Having a conversation with Jeets is always such pleasure as he asks the most interesting questions but most important he the one that alwasy reads the manual - so have the answers. We hope Jeetesh continues to be a valuable member of our club and a great dive buddy for everyone where he will continue to make lists for list and give us all awesome memories on every trip .

S-TEK FIN
The S-TEK fin is the second in the SCUBAPRO Modular Fin System . designed for divers, boasting superior Reverse-, Alternate- and Frog kick performance. The 30-degree pre-angle that ensures that the fin performs well during flutter kicks and the vented blade design helps channel water efficiently. Following the innovation of the Seawing family, this blade incorporates the Clean Water Blade design to further reduce drag and resistance. The S-TEK Fin features a very Slimline Profile so that no line or kelp will catch on the side of the blade, this design also aids with the recovery portion of your Alternate- and Frog kicks. While the S-TEK blade is slightly positively buoyant by default, you have the option to add stainless steel weight plates as ballast, one weight will render the fin neutrally buoyant and two weights will create slight negative buoyancy.
Categoristics
30º pre-angle.
• Slimline profile.
• Vented Blade Design.
• Clean Water Blade.
• Blade and foot pocket are molded separately with a durable Socket-Lock Connecting System that allows for easy assembly and disassembly.
• Made of premium Monprene® for long-lasting durability.
• 2x SCUBAPRO branded Stainless Steel Weight Plates included.
• Includes reusable fin carry bag and MFS (Modular Fin System) Multi-tool.

My first ocean dive was an absolutely incredible experience that I will never forget! From the moment I hopped on the tractor ride to the beach, I knew I was in for something special. Meeting other divers and setting up was a breeze thanks to the dedicated assistance provided by SV. And let's not forget about the boat ride out - the excitement was building with every passing moment!
But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer beauty of being underwater. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before - words simply cannot do it justice. And even though I may have returned with a few less pieces of soft gear than I started with (oops!), I felt like an absolute rock star.
I am so grateful to the SV team for making this unforgettable experience possible. I can only imagine the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that every trip is just as amazing as this one. I am already counting down the days until my next adventure with you guys!

The Ribbontail
The Ribbontail Ray is found in the tropical Indo-Pacific nearshore seas, as well as the waters off islands in the eastern Pacific, are home to the round ribbontail ray (Taeniura meyeni), a species of stingray in the family Dasyatidae. It lives in the bottom of lagoons, estuaries, and reefs, usually between 20 and 60 meters deep. This huge ray, which measures 1.8 meters wide, is distinguished by a thick, rounded pectoral fin disc with little tubercles on top and a comparatively short tail with a deep ventral fin fold. It also has a black tail and an irregular but striking bright and dark speckled pattern on its upper body.
The round ribbontail ray is often nocturnal, solitary or social, and a fierce predator on small benthic molluscs, crustaceans, and bony fishes. It can produce up to seven pups at once. The embryos are supported by yolk and later histotrophic ("uterine milk") secreted by the mother. Despite being non-aggressive, the round ribbontail ray has a poisonous tail spine which is used to defend itself when provoked. Threats to this slow-reproducing species include habitat deterioration throughout much of its range and commercial fishing, both targeted and as bycatch. As a result, it has received a Vulnerable rating from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The round ribbontail ray is not aggressive and has been known to approach and investigate divers. However, if harassed it can inflict a severe wound with its venomous tail spine. The round ribbontail ray is popular with ecotourist divers because of its size and spectacular appearance.

Fun Facts
About The Female Blanket Octopus
Surprisingly little is known about the blanket octopus and its behavior, but one thing is certain: they’re breathtakingly beautiful. This octopus can be found in the Pacific Ocean, usually clinging to the side of a coral reef at night while also finding shelter in rock crevices during the day.
The Blanket Octopus (Tremoctopus violaceus), which lives in subtropical and tropical oceans, epitomizes the nomadic invertebrate lifestyle by spending her days drifting through the wide sea. The four different species of blanket octopus get their names from the females' flowing, transparent, iridescent flesh that joins four of their limbs. The Blanket Octopus is another unsolved ocean enigma since it spends its entire life in the open ocean and is therefore rarely seen.
The Female Blanket Octopus has a magnificent cloak that, she can unfold to enlarge herself, but what if it doesn't? Her fall-back strategy is to rip off pieces of her cape to fool a predator long enough for her to escape quickly with all of her vital organs still in tact, comparable to a lizard feeling threatened and losing its tail.
The female blanket octopus is 10,000 times bigger than the male, who is just 4 cm long and shaped like a tiny dumpling. Not only that — he’s also neutrally colored with blue highlights and can change color to blend in with his environment. That means he is not very flashy and stays hidden in plain sight while the females protect their eggs.
The highly deadly Portuguese man o' war, a jellyfish-like monster that plys the open waters, is capable of hurting its prey, but the Blanket Octopus is strangely resistant to its tentacles' venom. This is a very clever ploy, but when researchers discovered a blanket octopus with tentacles connected to its suckers, they discovered that the animals STEAL the tendrils to use as weapons to defend themselves or as tiny stun guns to incapacitate victims.

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS & BUCKET LIST SITES
Rasdhoo Atoll - The small atoll of Rasdhoo lies off the north eastern corner of Ari Atoll proper.
Madivaru (Hukrueli Faru) - The site is named for the abundance of manta rays seen here (Madi means manta ray in Dhivehi). Depths range from 25 to almost 100 feet, making the dive interesting and varied. Manta rays are attracted to Madivaru because of the strong currents and the several cleaning stations located here.
Hammerhead Point - Its proximity to deep waters makes this location the best for getting close to these magnificent creatures.
North Ari Atoll - One of the biggest atolls and is located in the west of the archipelago it is divided into North Ari Atoll and South Ari Atoll.
Hafsa Thila - Known for its grey reef shark cleaning station, this site is like fish soup. Watch the sharks swim around the top of the pinnacle. Dog-tooth tuna, bonito and giant travelly shepherd the thousands of fusiliers.
Maaya Thila - Most famous for the white tip reef sharks that can nearly always be seen here. A night dive also allows divers to encounter moray eels, turtles, octopus and stonefish.
South Ari Atoll
Maamigili Beyru - Home to whalesharks coming up for a feed, as well as a 'nursery' for whalesharks, you can find juvenile whalesharks here all year round. Rahdhiga Thila - Impressive from the second you swim down to 30m to look at some grey reef sharks, then moving up to the overhangs with their beautiful dripping blue, yellow and orange soft coral. Finish the dive at 3m to 6m with some impressive table-top coral for a pleasantly relaxing safety stop.
